Elementary School Position.  Training/Transition begins as soon as April 5, 2027 with regular employment beginning 2027/2028 school year.  Salary Schedule is based on the 2026-2027 school year.  

 

This is a 10-month/renewable position, that includes benefits of paid medical and leave.  The Health Aide works off of the 194-day calendar, and is an 8 hours/day position.

 

  New hires typically begin at Step 1 on the Salary Schedule.

TITLE: Health Room Aide, 1.0 FTE (8 hours per day)

 

JOB TYPE: This is a classified position

 

RESPONSIBLE TO: School Principal

 

ASSIGNMENT: To assist students, families and staff in providing health services that enable students with healthcare concerns to participate safely in the educational setting. The position requires use of independent judgment, but the work is generally performed under well-defined rules, standards, policies, and procedures.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Must have Medical Assistant Certificate or equivalent education/experience.
  • Prior healthcare experience preferred
  • Microsoft Suite proficiency
  • Data entry experience

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with students in the health room.
  • Basic first aid and wound care.
  • Order health room supplies.
  • Inventory allocation.
  • Coordinates school-wide dental screenings and dental van days, Vision and hearing screenings.
  • Attend all medical 504 and IEP meetings and assist in development of the medical portion of 504 plans or IEP plans.
  • Oversee health care plans for students, collaborating with families and medical professionals.
  • Assures that all 504 and IEP services are provided according to physician instruction, RN delegation, written plans and district guidelines.
  • Suggest modification to plans that lack clarity or missing pieces.
  • Provide oversight and management of diabetic students as follows:
    • Receive physician orders and communicates with physician, registered nurse and staff.
    • Reviews individual student needs and protocols with the registered nurse in preparing staff training in diabetes management and insulin injection delegation.
    • Coordinates blood glucose testing protocols for diabetic students.
    • Provides insulin management, including injections as delegated by the R.N.
    • Calculates amount of insulin for students as needed.
    • Oversees urine testing for ketones and reports levels to family/physician as appropriate.
    • Lead contact with families of diabetic students.
    • Monitors diabetic students in class when extra food is present (parties).
    • Monitors diabetic students for any extra activity outside of regular daily schedule, such as walking field trips, bussed field trips, extra Physical Education, recess rodeo, etc.
    • In charge of implementation of feeding protocols for students.
    • Responsible for urinary catheterization and colostomy bag care.
    • Toileting, changing and bathroom assistance, bowel protocols according to physician orders.
    • Applies infection control treatment as delegated.
    • Charts medical interventions.
    • Dispense prescription and non-prescription medication at school following physician orders.
    • Assist with physical therapy, occupational therapy and assistive technology when specialists are in the building..
  • Coordinates lice checks and communication with parents regarding lice related issues
  • Coordinates medical supplies as needed for field trips and special activities.
  • Maintains required medical authorizations for CPR/First Aid/other trainings specified by contracted nurse.
  • Communicates with parents and staff regarding student health needs.
  • Communicates with dentists, physicians and our RN concerning student health needs.
  • Sees that all stakeholders are informed as needed about student-specific health needs (Twilight, BGC).
  • Maintain student vaccinations records.
  • Coordinate parent notifications of attendance risks.
  • This position also serves to cover the front office staffing during breaks, lunches, staff shortages by attendance and periods of high activity.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

  • Maintains the highest level of confidentiality and follows district policies.
  • Conforms to OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens Standards.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a wide variety of locations, including school environments.
  • May work with high stress student, family, or personal situations.
  • May require occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Involves bending, lifting, crouching, reaching, standing, sitting, walking, fine manipulation,  wisting/turning and repetitive movements.
  • Requires the use of computers and office equipment.

 

CONDITIONS:  This is a classified 10-month position.

 

SALARY: Will be determined by terms of the current negotiated agreement. The amount due under the contract will be pro-rated monthly in accordance with district policy.

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
