Position to be hired for the 2025-2026 school year. Salary Schedule is based on the classified contract.
This is a 12-month/renewable position, that includes benefits of paid medical and leave. The Custodian II works off of the 260 day calendar.

TITLE: Custodian II
SUPERVISOR: Maintenance and Grounds Supervisor and Building Principal
JOB TYPE: This is a Classified Position, 1.0 FTE (8 hours + 30 minute unpaid lunch break)
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for maintaining the clean and sanitary condition of the building and grounds, the security of the building and on-site monitoring and maintenance of all systems related to the building. This position may supervise lower levels.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. - High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- At least three years of experience in work related to the care of schools or public buildings.
- Considerable knowledge of the practices; procedures; equipment and materials used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and related systems (i.e. mechanical, electrical, heating and plumbing) and custodial services.
- Ability to assess situations and make appropriate judgments.
- Knowledge of building plans and specifications.
- Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety practices and precautions.
- Considerable knowledge of local laws and procedures as pertains to job duties.
- Ability to plan; determine work priorities; schedule; supervise and direct work of professional and nonprofessional technical support staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Keep buildings and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
- Regulate heat and ventilation systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Check daily to insure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
- Sweep classrooms daily and dust furniture.
- Clean corridors after school each day and during the day when condition requires it.
- Scrub, hose down, and disinfect toilet floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures and drinking
- fountains daily.
- Wash all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary
- Keep grounds free of rubbish.
- Perform such yard-keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
- Keep all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in good state of preservation.
- Make such minor building repairs as directed by the Maintenance Supervisor or Building Principal.
- Report major repairs needed promptly to Maintenance Supervisor.
- Maintain on a regular schedule all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled
- Report immediately to the Principal/Maintenance Supervisor any damage to school property.
- Remain on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and attendance is required by the Unit Administrator.
- Assume responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and determine, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
- Keep an inventory of supplies and equipment and request replacements from Maintenance far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as it will not hinder the custodian in their duties.
- Conduct an on-going program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
- Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Building Administrator.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
- Conduct periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to insure their safe condition.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR TESTING REQUIRED:
- Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
- First Aid Training and CPR Certification required (training provided by District).
- Valid Oregon Driver’s License.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
PHYSICAL/WORK REQUIREMENTS:
- High degree of physical stamina and occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. and frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. throughout the day.
- Safety equipment is available to be used.
- Employee will be on feet all day, with bending, lifting, standing, twisting, walking, kneeling, and climbing ladders and performing repetitive work.
- Exposure to noise, heat, cold, hot and cold surfaces, sharp and moving equipment.
- Requires coordination and dexterity.
- May include solvent or cleaning smells and human body waste clean-up.
- Work environment is primarily in a school building environment, and includes work performed outdoors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Ability to organize and maintain efficient time schedule.
- Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students and the public.

- Effective oral/written communication skills in order to work collaboratively with a variety of school personnel, as well as parents of students with disabilities and/or unique needs.
CONDITIONS: This is a classified 12-month position.
SALARY: Will be determined by terms of the current negotiated agreement. The amount due under the contract will be pro-rated monthly in accordance with district policy.
