Position begins 2024-2025 school year.

 

Salary Schedule is based on the 2023-2024 school year, , and may be updated based on current contract negotiations.   New hires typically begin at Step 1 on the Salary Schedule. The Siuslaw School District allows step credit the salary scale  for years of certified teaching experience.

 

This is a 10-month/renewable position, that includes benefits of paid medical and leave.

TITLE:  Certified Teacher, Middle/High School Multilingual Language Learners,  (Title III) Program, 1.0 FTE

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Conducts all Multilingual Language Learner (Title III) classroom activities as designated by the School District.  This job description applies to Multilingual Language Learner classroom teacher positions.

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:   Building Principal and Director of Special Programs.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Oregon Teaching Certificate valid for assignment
  • Knowledge of Federal Title III program compliance
  • ESOL, GLAD, SIOP preferred
  • Knowledge of child growth and development at each level of instruction
  • Familiarity with Common Core State Standards and graduation requirements
  • Experience with multi-age planning and instruction

ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishes and maintains an orderly and supportive classroom environment in which students are actively participating and show respect for one another and for the teacher.
  • Meet District, State, and Federal Requirements, including:
    • Displays knowledge of and maintains compliance with procedures, policies, and regulations,
    • Maintains compliance documentation.
  • Conduct specialized student assessments and evaluations related to Multilingual
  • Consult with colleagues to develop a plan that guides appropriate instruction for Multilingual Language
  • Supports General and Special Education teachers’ instructional needs by providing or informing teachers of available and appropriate learning resources, and consulting with teachers regarding appropriate use of resources.
  • Maintains a physical environment conducive to learning.
  • Plans a program of study designed to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of Multilingual Language
  • Ensures that instructional activities and materials are clearly related to adopted state, district and school goals and objectives, and that District-approved materials are used as the core of instruction.
  • Conducts interesting and well-paced classes, using a variety of instructional techniques, strategies, and media appropriate to the lesson and the needs and capabilities of the students.
  • Identifies, diagnoses, and prescribes remediation for individual learning difficulties.
  • Maximizes time when students are paying attention and working on tasks directly related to the subject matter.
  • Makes sure students understand what to do before undertaking assignments.
  • Assesses, records, and provides feedback promptly and often to students on their progress and assignments__maintaining such records as required by law and District policy.
  • Collaborates to develop Individual Education Programs (IEP's).
  • Upon request, assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Responds in a cooperative and positive manner to supervision.
  • Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both academic and behavioral progress of students.
  • Maintains open lines of communication with classified staff, licensed staff, and support personnel to establish a positive work environment.
  • Assumes responsibility for assigned duties, e.g., lunch count, breakfast duty, etc.
  • Takes precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, material, and facilities.
  • Assists the administration in implementing policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  • Achieves professional growth through consultation with District support staff and attendance at building and District in-service meetings.
  • Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with building administrators and staff__cooperating to resolve problems in a professional manner so that the concerns of all parties are considered.
  • Manage daily schedules, responsibilities, and assignments of instructional assistants. Give ongoing feedback to IA’s and provide support to administrative staff for evaluative procedures.
  • Participates in activities which are related to school functions and/or the educational process which occur outside the regular school day, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Follows specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and District.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Maintains satisfactory attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to organize and maintain an efficient time schedule.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with staff, students and the public.
  • Good communication, organizational and computer skills.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Emotional and physical stamina to perform duties as required by the designated task, except for temporary disability.
  • Effective and strong oral/written communication skills in order to work collaboratively with a variety of school personnel, as well as parents of students with disabilities and/or unique needs.

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in a wide variety of locations, including office and school  environments.
  • May work with high stress students, family, or personnel situations.
  • May require occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. 
  • Involves sitting, walking, and attendance at evening and weekend meetings. 
  • Requires the use of computers and office equipment.

 MINIMUM TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  Teacher Contract.

                                   

SALARY LEVEL:  Placement on Teacher Salary Schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
